    Enna use case

Let me introduce you a very cool usage of Enna (v0.4.0 from Ubuntu Packages). These photos have been taken at the home of a coworker of mine. He have integrate a PC running GNU/Linux and a 17″ touchscreen  in his wall. The mediacenter has two video outputs, one for the touchsreen and another for a video projector.
    This is so funny !!!

Don’t blame me these pictures have been taken with an iPhone (bouhh!)

      hi,
good think of doing in every home. I’ve just one question for you, is possible to modify the Exit’s bottom of Enna to make the shut down of the OS directly from it, without close Enna first and then OS?
      thanks a lot

Enna on Windows and Macos, step 1

One critisism the more heard during the Enna’s release was the fact that it only runs on GNU/Linux.
Enna depends of EFL and of GeeXBoX’s libs. EFL are already ready for Windows. I want to thanks Vincent Torri who has made an HUUUGGGGE work to have the EFL on this system.

About the GeeXBoX’s libs, Mat has already fixed the configure script, and some other fixes in order to have libvalhalla and libplayer running on Windows. Now the big work is to have an libplayer backend that can play videos and music on windows. The natural choice is to rewrite the VLC backend. VLC is a really good at solid software, for years now, and is working on mostly all OS. With it, we should have a backend for all of enna’s port, MacOS, Windows, and of course Linux.

    About the MacOS port.
Here there is a lot of work, mostly on evas and ecore. The Evas Quartz engine is not in a good shape. And the ecore Quartz code just doesn’t work. I begin to write a new engine for MacOS, based on OpenGL cocoa. It’s not ready for prime time now, but I can run all expedite test, and I get an Evas Speed arround 250fps on my MacMini with an Intel GMA500.

There is a lot of work to have Enna running on them, but it’s a first step 🙂

If you have skills on these systems, contact me, help is always welcome.

The VLC backend has still some major problems even with Linux.. and according to the VLC devs, it will stay with these problems with vlc 1.1.x.
But, there is a possibility to have the xine backend under windows, there is a directx output.

Thx Ben i much appreciate your new job! I use your GeeXboX from many years ago…

      but.. but…

I have a big problem now!

I use Enna in a lite-HTPC diskless whit only 40Gb of space, 512Mb of ram and a clean Ubuntu 9.10 install.

My FIlm and TV_Series are located into another PC-server in other room, this PC_server are Vistax64 and in an other rooms have a also backup on Windows7, thats all.. ok.

I still a share FILM and TVSerie in Ubuntu 9.10 htpc whit samba, all ok film and tv episodes are perfect shared and i can view whit mediaplayer and vlc trought Vista64 PC-server.
FSTAB mount smb share on win-pc at start and ubuntu run enna autoamatically… e perfetc HTPC!!
(Also a Skystart uir-usb remote work fine, don’t find a back button, but i think to resolve whit lirc later..)

What’s are my problem? The problem are that Enna don’t recognize directory in this SMB share but only files (mpg, avi, mp3 etc etc.)
Considerate that this share mount a directory in home of HTPC user perfet functionally.
One of this two DIR have movie and directory (FILMS dir ), in this I can read film but don’t read directory!?

It’s any way to resolve this big issue?

      Many Thx
      Byez

      Hi there!

Thanx for the new version! Looks very nice!
I’ve been using GeeXBox for quite some time if I needed a mediaplayer anywhere… it is actually quite magical – I’ve tried to configure several HTPC-software but was unable to get my remote working. For some reason GeeXBox did not have any problems… by default.

I’ve been looking for a simple, lightweight, and easy HTPC sofware – and Enna looks quite promising. The only bad thing is – I’d love to have a installation boot disk for Enna for the most minimal installation just for havin’ HTPC connected to the TV and internet.

One question – I paddled my way through the config file, but didn’t find the place for changing F to Celsius…?

Cheers, ceep up the good work!

    Enna Compilation on Ubuntu

As neither eina nor EFL are released, you must compile them. They are Ubuntu packages for EFL but they are old, and API have changed. If you use them, compilation should failed. It’s better to compile all libraries with your little fingers 🙂
    The result :

    Enna Main Menu

    Enna Main Menu

I just tried out the latest version in svn/hg and I must say I am pretty excited on how this project will turn out.

Add TV-support and I will install this on my HTPC as soon as it reaches product quality.

      Keep up the nice work!

And in order to use libplayer, don’t forget:

    • daryl 11:17 pm on October 31, 2008 Permalink | Reply

whoa…. I have seen enna in CVS (now svn) for some time now. This is the first time I have seen in up an going. As the easy_e17 script skipped rage I am assuming that this is not the media center app for e17???

Ok I like it but here is my one question. I am a CEDIA certified home theater installer and I can not live without surround sound. I know how to send commands to mplayer instructing it to utilize alsa to pass through the ac3 and dts audio tracks. I am not familiar with libplayer but I am wondering if the context is the same? Will the same commands that tell mplayer to preserve and not to downmix that beautiful 5.1 track be applicable to Enna?

    • captainigloo 10:26 am on November 1, 2008 Permalink | Reply

I think that rage is not a full mediacenter app. It’s Raster’s toy. This app is in E SVN to show what we can do with EFL. Enna is more a mediacenter app, and is more usefull.

For you mplayer question, I’m not 100% sure that what you want to do is possible, but I guess mplayer options are compatible with enna. Mathieu and Ben (libplayer’s authors) could answer better but I think that mplayer options in $HOME/.mplayer are not overrided by enna. So ac3 adn dts track could be play like you do without enna. Enna just embeded mplayer window.
If you use emotion as main enna backend, you can’t do this.

    • Mathieu SCHROETER 12:08 pm on November 1, 2008 Permalink | Reply

      Nico you are right!

Just put the configuration in ~/.mplayer/config, the file will be read by MPlayer.

      Hi Stefan,
It’s a bit compilicated to compile enna these days, As i have done some changes, add elementary as have seen. Last week E guys have break some of EFL api so I had to change some part of enna too.
Today I think that you should compile without problem.

First you must have all uptodate libs from E17. To update your libs :
      svn update
      ./autogen.sh –prefix=/usr
      make
      make install
      for each libs :
eina, eet, embryo, ecore, edje, elementary, libplayer, libvalhalha, and enna.
libvahala is new , but in a very good shape, and developped by Mat. I think that i will blog about this in a near future.
Hope that this infos help you

    Road to Enna NextGen

For Two month, I’m writing new version of Enna. As you can see In my previous post, this version run on Maemo. But the main goal is always to write a complete Media Center arround EFL libs for PC. You can found this new version here :

    svn co https://enna.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/enna/trunk/ng/enna enna
    and as usual :
    cd enna && ./autogen.sh && make && make install

At the moment you should be able to play music file if you have backend compiled and installed. The first backend you can use is emotion. But this weekend GeeXBox Guys added new backend based on libplayer. Thanks Ben to have added this new feature. Development go fast, and I hope to release an alpha version soon with few features : Only Music and Video playback. Development of new modules is fast (Only 1 hour to write libplayer backend for example) and new plugins should come soon.
I tought to write squeezecenter plugin, to control this network player with enna.
And if i have time, I will provide deb packages for maemo.

    More comming soon 🙂

I’m not completly happy with this mockups, and new version is in preparation. I think that to have a darker background, and saturated colors for selected parts could be really beautifull.

    Evas Reflection #2

I played a little bit more with evas and reflection. In my last post I proposed a way to add reflection with Evas. But this code was false.

Correct code have been added to enna, and you can view the result here :

    Evas Reflection

    Evas Reflection

    • First you need to add alpha layer, to enable premultiplication. It’s done when you load an image like png with alpha or if you add directly this alpha layer with : evas_object_image_alpha_set (Evas_Object *obj, Evas_Bool has_alpha)
    • When I copy pixess, I have add a bug. The pixels indexes were false when I flip the image. I have correct this in the new code.

To be integrated in Enna, I have write a Evas_Smart Object, here is the code :

    Enna on Enlightenment’s CVS

    Great news for enna,
two weeks ago it have been added to CVS’s Enlightenment. Thanks to Vincent to add it 🙂
I keep sourceforge’s SVN for the moment. Last changes can be found on SVN and I merge the code with CVS one when I have stable code.
I’ll do my best to keep enna compiling agains last EFL changes. So if you have troubles compiling or running Enna, please try with CVS sources.

You can checkout the code with the folowing command:
    cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous@anoncvs.enlightenment.org:/var/cvs/e co misc/enna
